The car was like a go cart. The passenger rear view mirror didn’t work, there were dents and scratches, with rust, the dashboard lights were so dim they were unreadable at night, and the tire pressure light was on because the tires were low on air. The drop off was so crowded they just told us to leave the keys in the cup holder and they’d deal with it later. Never had so many issues renting a car or the having a car with so many issues. It was supposed to be a Ford Focus or similar. It was a Mitsubishi Mirage with the bare minimum. Not a great experience. I rented from VIPCars earlier in the week for less $ and got a Ford Fusion that had no mechanical issues. This rental with Hertz through Kayak was terrible

Radio did not work. Impossible to get Customer Support at Hertz. Sat on hold for over an hour two different times. Got directed to some sort of bot chat that also did not work.

I got out of line and went to Hertz. They got me in a car within 10 minutes. Agent was overwhelmed with requests and working solo with no help on a Sunday.

The bad part: The staff member was in such a rush to clock out that they didn’t want to check us in with our rental and told me “you can go back in line and wait on her.” until the other staff (who was already busy with other customers) had to ask him to take care of us. So he grumbled through the process and gave me the keys to a truck without telling us we didn’t get the Camry or a car like we booked until we walked out there and realized it was a full size truck. Not the most comfortable ride back home when you’re expecting an easy to drive sedan. So basically staff interaction was not pleasant sums up the bad part of the experience. The good: It was easy to book online, the value for the price was competitive and the process of pickup and return was simple.

First car I was given had nonstop electrical problems. The CarPlay wouldn’t work and then ultimately an electrical failure rendered the car useless. After several hours, which caused me to miss a critical meeting, I secured a replacement vehicle. The lift gate on that one had to be forced open and closed. When I returned it, the attendant said, “they knew about that.” Won’t ever be using Avis again.

When I arrived in Birmingham there weren’t any mid-size trucks available even though that is what I reserved. There was a larger truck available but it had not been cleaned. The Budget employee asked if I would be willing to accept the larger truck for the same price if he cleaned it quickly. I said yes. The truck was in great shape. It was exactly what i needed to help my son move in for college. The return was quick and simple and I very much appreciated that I wasn’t told I would have to choose another car. We worked together to get it fixed quickly and I was very happy! Thanks Budget!

The best thing about this experience was the Manager the next day. We got our car the first day, not the right one. Our car was sold/overbooked. It died within using the car within 20 miles. Had to get it towed, service rep said we would have to incur the costs? Making us freak out for a moment. Manager fixed it and gave us a car and it worked for the rest of the weekend. Very upsetting to have this happen and its a real shame.
