Want a weekend in Oslo? Be sure to plan your trip for December, when flights and hotel combined are cheapest.

The capital of Norway lies at the mouth of the Oslofjord and is surrounded by some of the most incredible nature there is, ideal for all kinds of outdoor activities. In December, however, you don’t even have to leave the city – at Holmenkollen you can ski, sledge, ice-skate, and even hop in a ski-simulator to experience the world’s toughest downhill ski slopes. Once you’ve conquered the pistes in the morning, you can hit the shops for some Christmas shopping, and enjoy the incredibly tasty Norwegian Christmas traditions of gløgg (a spiced wine), and pepperkake (gingerbread).
