Friendly staff, but very vague. We were up-sold, to a jeep after a long flight, hot and exhausted. We felt deceived by pricing. Upfront clear details would have been appreciated. Also, the contract stated a full tank of gas, which was less than 1/2 full. We had to keep running back into office to point out dings and gas situation. We did have them fill it up. My advice, document (pictures or film) the car, don't be too tired or hurried to make sure everything works and gas is full. Tourists are prey.

Mostly good experience, They didn’t have the mid size car I paid for, so they offered a van, which actually worked out better. But I did have to wait like a half hour to get it. Other than that everyone and everything was great. I would use them again.

Great customer service, very polite and profesional
Not having a Bed Bug infestation in the vehicle would have been a great start. Absolutely disgusting. Customer service was horrible. Roadside assistance was terrible to deal with. The only nice thing about it was the tow truck driver who was unaffiliated with them. I will NEVER be renting from budget again.

Car was dirty on pick-up and had body damage, and paint scratches on it. There was nobody to check us out and do a walk around. The car was what we had requested: a mustang convertible. Having the ability to pull the top down while cruising around Maui was amazing, but there is a serious lack of trunk and cabin space which made packing for the beach and airport a little challenging. We kept saying all trip long, “Next time, let’s get a Jeep.”
I was in the middle of a natural disaster and didn’t receive a refund. Hertz was awful and Kayak.com is awful. Really disappointing given the circumstances with the fires in Maui.

We reserved a dodge caravan, and we’re expecting something a little newer. We understand that it is difficult to get new vehicles for rentals, but this van seemed quite worn. Maybe it’s because of being so close to the ocean. It was adequate for our needs. The staff were extremely responsive and helpful…top notch. Drop off was quick and easy.

Hertz was terrible because they said YOU were responsible for my rental contract and nothing could be changed, fixed, or resolved about the rental contract, even though every email and contact was directed towards Hertz. Not once did they say “call Kayak.” The staff never answered their phones, and when they did, they put me on hold for 30 minutes, and between Anthony, Rhona, Carli and DJ (JD?), only the last person tried to help, and he worked for the Hertz Roadside recovery out of Ohio. Ridiculous. Never making that mistake to work through Kayak or Hertz again. I haven’t even received a receipt saying that my car was returned, even though it was 12 hours ago. Do you have my final contract? Bad service all around.

Not being familiar with Maui, I didn't realize there was more than one Hertz location in Kahului so it would have been helpful for that to be more apparent when booking. The agent at the airport Hertz was VERY RUDE when I showed up there. The agent at the hotel where the car was located, was WONDERFUL and I would book again based on his customer service.

This rental location purports to be for the JHM airport, but in fact is located a 10 minute drive away. They provided a ride from the JHM airport to the car rental location on arrival, but on departure, the departing flight was too early, so I had to take and pay for a taxi to the airport after dropping off the car. How can you claim to be a car rental location for an airport if you can't even get there during scheduled flights? Awful.

National rental at the Kahului Airport was a very pleasant experience. The place is easily accessible from the terminal - either a 3 minute walk or a breezy tram ride to the new, clean facility. Finding the National desk was also easy. Once inside, the counter person was very pleasant and quickly helped me work through an unforeseen issue. She was cheerful, professional and made me feel welcome. The man at the car lot asked me how many in my party, and whether our luggage was a little or a lot. He directed us to the better-fitting SUV still in the same car class, but really a more efficient vehicle for our needs. The car was clean, got good fuel economy and had bells and whistles, like car connect which made the map feature on my phone safer to observe, all of which made the trip super easy. I would definitely use National again, particularly because of the customer service (and the price was not nearly as nose-bleed as I expected).

The representatives in Maui were outstanding in every way! Not only their professional interactions, but their friendliness. We added my son as a driver the last day and extended the return time without extra cost or difficulty. We are VERY impressed with National Rental based on our recent experience! The car had a few issues with it. When we dropped it back off at the airport, my husband tried to tell the car person but it seemed like he was not interested. The car's back-up camera worked but when you would put the car in reverse the alarm would sound like you were about to hit someone and nothing would be behind you. The dashboard would light up where the car skid was on and it would vibrate but we were no where near hitting anything. The mph stopped showing on the dashboard also.

We were given an EV Tesla Model 3 with no instruction on how to charge and the limited types of chargers available (level 2) long term charging. This was unacceptable to us and put a damper on our whole vacation wondering if we would have enough charge to get anywhere. We had to take time away from our vacation to return that car and exchange it for a gas powered car. At the time of the exchange your customer service guy said Maui wasn’t set up very well yet for EV’s which we had to agree. I must commend him for a very smooth car exchange…very good service!

It took 3 hours for them to get our car. All the other car rental companies were taking 20 minutes.
Glad I got there when I did - on a Friday at 8:30am, I had 1 family in front of me and had to wait around 10 minutes (the family had like 4 cars though). When we turned our car in at 2:00pm on Sunday, it was a painless process - but I am super glad I wasn't checking out a car - there had to have been 50+ people in line. All of the rental agencies were like that though. Super glad I didn't have to deal with that!

Very nice counter people. Vehicle availability could be better, as in the particular size of vehicle reserved often is not available. My car did exactly what I wanted, 30+ mpg, FM radio, A/C trunk big enough for 2 large bags. I would rent from Avis at this location again
